Madrid not able to Bale out of draw

Real Madrid were not able to Bale out of a tie against Borussia Dortmund during Wednesday’s night Champions League match.

Real Madrid drew 2-2 against Borussia Dortmund in their final group stage match where they were not able to reach first place of their group.

Before the game, Dortmund had a two-point advantage over Madrid within their group. Madrid had to win at home in order to claim first place.

Both teams went into Wednesday’s game missing two key players for their squad Mario Gotze for Borussia Dortmund and Gareth Bale for Real Madrid.

Gareth Bale’s presence was more notable by having coach Zinedine Zidane change his usual 4-3-3 formation to a 4-4-2 formation.

The 4-4-2 formation allowed James Rodriguez to be integrated to the teams starting 11. It also allowed Cristiano Ronaldo move from his left wing position to sharing the nine position with Karim Benzema.

The game started with both teams playing their traditional attacking style trying to score the first goal.

Real Madrid opened up the scoreboard after Dani Carvajal was able to give a precise diagonal pass into Dortmund’s box and Benzema finish with a simple tap-in.

Dortmund tried to come back quick and recover from being down 1-0 but were unsuccessful as the first half finished 1-0.

Coming into the second half both teams continued to attack Real Madrid trying to amplify the score and Dortmund trying to get the draw.

Real Madrid was able to increase their lead to 2-0 after James Rodriguez gave a great cross to Karim Benzema who finished off with a header.

Despite being down 2-0 Dortmund never quit to try and get at least a point to go home with.

Dortmund reduced their deficit after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored from an assist by Marcel Schmelzer.

Dortmund continued the hunt for a draw and were successful when Marco Reus came on from the bench and scored the equalizing goal.

With the game ending in a 2-2 draw ,it allowed Borussia Dortmund secure the first place position in the group with 14 points and left Real Madrid in second place with 12 points.
